What Syndex is.
Syndex is a private network that matches commercial subcontractors with general contractors in Calgary. A general contractor posts a request, the crews it matches are notified, and the GC contacts the ones who reply.
An introduction service, not a marketplace
A request names a trade, a location, a crew size, and a start date. Subcontractors in that trade are notified and reply Yes, Call me, or No. The general contractor sees who answered and phones them directly.
Nothing is bid on inside Syndex and no agreement is signed through it. Syndex introduces the two sides and is not a party to whatever they agree between themselves, and it takes no cut of the work.
Two sides, joined two different ways
Subcontractors sign up themselves. There is no application to get through and no fee to be listed — the two sides are not symmetrical, and a crew looking for work should not have to ask permission to be reachable.
General contractor access runs the other way. A company applies, an operator reads the application, and an account is created only if it is approved. There is no self-serve route to a general contractor account: the database itself refuses to create one from any signed-in session, so an approved application is the only way a GC account exists.
What a WCB badge here actually says
A subcontractor uploads their Alberta WCB clearance letter. An operator opens the document, reads it, and records the date printed on it. That date is what a general contractor is shown next to the reply.
The distinction is deliberate. An Alberta clearance letter is retrospective — it says an account was in good standing for work completed up to the day the letter was printed, and it says nothing whatsoever about the days after. It names no end date, so Syndex prints none. Once the letter on file is more than 90 days old, the badge stops reading as a current check: it states how old the letter is, and the GC looking at it is told to ask for a current one.
Approving that letter is also what puts a crew into the matching pool. Until an operator has read it, the account exists and is sent nothing.
Who a request reaches
A request goes to subcontractors whose trade matches it and whose account is active. Nobody else. Requests are never posted publicly, and member profiles are not searchable from outside the network — a general contractor sees the crews who replied, and the crews see only the requests that match them.
Where it operates
Calgary, and the towns around it: Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, High River and Strathmore. That is the whole of the service area. Syndex is a Calgary network, and there is no second city yet.
The work is commercial: tenant improvements, retail build-outs, industrial fit-outs, multi-family and other project-based construction. It is not built for homeowner or DIY jobs.
Who runs it
Syndex has been operating since 2026 and is run from Calgary. It is small on purpose. Every clearance letter and every request for general contractor access is read by a person before anything is approved.
