About this trade

What to know when hiring
Four things GCs check before they sign.
Light gauge vs structural — confirm scope
Light gauge steel framing for TI is different work than structural steel. Most crews do one or the other. Ask which.
Engineered drawings for wood framing
Multi-family wood framing in Calgary needs stamped engineering and city inspection. Confirm the sub has the engineering coordination experience.
Blocking is everyone's job — until it isn't

- Most commercial carpentry crews handle hollow metal frames and door installs. Confirm hardware install scope separately.
- Are wood framing subs experienced with multi-family code?
- Multi-family wood framing has specific fire and acoustic detailing. Crews with multi-family experience will tell you their last few projects on the call.
