About this trade
General labour is the trade most often hired last and missed first. The right crew on a tight day saves a TI schedule. The wrong crew or none at all stalls the whole sequence.
Syndex sends your request to reviewed commercial labour members. It is not a temp agency or a day-labour app: you hire the crew directly.
Common project types
What Calgary GCs hire general labour subs for.
Site cleanup & sweep
Daily cleanup, final pre-occupancy clean, between-trade sweeps.
Demolition & strip-out
TI demo, ceiling tile strip, fixture removal, careful demo around live MEP.
Material handling
Stock truck unloads, floor-to-floor moves, hoisting coordination.
Dust & noise control
Temp walls, zip walls, HEPA filtering, after-hours noisy work.
Temporary protection
Floor protection, corner guards, masking, weather barriers.
What to know when hiring
Four things GCs check before they sign.
WCB is not optional
Labour crews are where WCB gaps show up most. If a crew has no WCB account, the company that hires it can end up responsible for its premiums. Get a clearance letter before anyone starts.
Specify the work, not just the headcount
"Two guys for demo" gets you two guys. "Two-person crew for office TI demo, careful around live electrical" gets you the right two guys.
Daily vs weekly availability
Some labour crews book full weeks, others take day-of calls. Specify the duration in your request.
Coordinate with the on-site supervisor
Labour quality lives or dies on the supervision they get from your project manager. Brief them before they show up.
How Syndex works for this trade
Post your labour request with the tasks, the crew size and the date. It goes to every reviewed general-labour member who covers that part of Calgary, and you see the ones who reply, with their contact details.
Frequently asked
General Labour hiring — questions GCs ask first.
- Are Syndex labour crews WCB-verified?
- No — not all of them, and the card tells you which. A person reviews every company before it joins the matching pool, but a WCB clearance letter is not a condition of joining. Where each sub stands is shown on the card beside their reply: the date on their letter when we hold one, and plainly that we don't when we don't. You decide who to call.
- Can I get a same-day labour crew through Syndex?
- You can post a same-day request. Whether a crew can come depends on their day, and the replies tell you who can.
- Does Syndex cover demolition with live MEP nearby?
- Some labour crews handle careful demo around live electrical and mechanical. Specify in your post.
- Is Syndex a temp agency?
- No. Syndex is a network of reviewed commercial crews. You contact them and hire them directly; Syndex takes no cut.
